STAR is a multidisciplinary international organization of researchers who share interests in theoretical, experimental, and applied aspects of anxiety, stress, and coping. The Society publishes the journal, Anxiety, Stress, & Coping (Editors: Aleksandra Luszczynska, Joachim Stoeber).

The current STAR President is Kate Moore (Charles Darwin University, Australia). Past presidents of STAR were Charles Spielberger (1981-1984), Ralf Schwarzer (1984-1986), Martin Covington (1986-1988), Knut Hagtvet (1988-1990), Charles Carver (1990-1992), Matthias Jerusalem (1992-1994), Jeri Benson (1994-1996), Reinhard Pekrun (1996-1998), Stevan Hobfoll (1998-2000), Christine Schwarzer (2000-2002), Juan Jose Miguel Tobal (2002-2004), Volker Hodapp (2004-2006), and Michael Eysenck (2006-2008).

The first STAR conference was held in Leiden, Netherlands, in 1980. In the past 30 years, the conference has visited some of the world’s most beautiful cities and countries, as well as some of its most prestigious universities. Recent conferences have been held in Budapest, London, Bavaro-Punta Cana, Amsterdam, Melbourne, Rethymnon, Istanbul, Krakow, Bratislava, and Cairo. These meetings provide a platform for major addresses by internationally renowned scholars, paper sessions, poster sessions, and workshops.
